Good morning. Awaiting US inflation data, Russia installed new commander for its war in Ukraine and future Mac computers may have touch screens. Here’s what people are talking about.
Traders from New York to Chicago to London will be glued to their screens Thursday morning waiting for the latest consumer price index reading from the Labor Department, which is due at 8:30 a.m. in Washington. In fact, many will be watching trading closely before the numbers even hit — because of what happened last month, when trading volume in 10-year Treasury futures soared in the 60 seconds leading up to the release of the monthly CPI, one of the Federal Reserve’s favored inflation measures. No one has been able to explain what went on, and speculation remains that the trading spike was caused by a hack or leak. Bloomberg Economics’ nowcast flags CPI slowing to 6.5% and says it will build the case for a quarter-point hike.
